HOH’s Therapists Will be Wearing a Mask or Face Shield at All Times

Mask or Face Shield - you must wear one

To Wear a Mask or Face Shield, that is the Question

The answer is… you must wear either a mask or face shield (or a face scarf) while on the premises at Hands On Healing.

I hate to be redundant, but this is important.  Everyone will be required to wear a mask, or face shield, or some form of face covering, that is to be properly worn (nose and mouth must be covered) while visiting the spa at Hands On Healing.

The only possible three exceptions will be:

  • During a massage, while clients are lying face-down on the massage table, they are permitted to remove their mask.
  • During a client’s facial treatment – they will be required to wear a mask entering and leaving the spa.
  • When a client provides a written letter from their physician stating that due to a health issue, they cannot wear a mask. In such a case, the client always has the option of wearing their face shield.

With that having been said, below you will find links to articles about face masks and face shields. But before you check them out, I want to talk about the confusion all of us have had to contend with since the outbreak of the pandemic. There has been an untold amount of misinformation, as well as continually evolving new information available on every aspect of Covid-19!  And that has created mass confusion for everyone.

Who remembers that, initially, the American people were told that masks didn’t work?  And now we’re being told they are vitally important in preventing the spread of the virus. Talk about confusion! Come to find out, according to Dr. Anthony Fauci from the National Institutes of Health, we were apparently told that, by our government officials, with the hope of preventing a mass shortage of masks that were desperately needed by medical professionals treating Covid-19 patients. The government wanted to, and pretty much succeeded in, prevented worsening the mass shortage of masks in America. Who doesn’t remember the toilet paper hoarding that took place? No One!

I can understand why the government took that approach, but that left everyone arguing over the efficacy of masks once the CDC started advising everyone should be wearing a mask in public. People are still arguing over wearing them and some people are making headline viral news throwing temper tantrums about being forced to wear a mask in stores, restaurants, and other businesses.

Here’s the bottom line. Businesses have a moral obligation to protect their employees, clients, or customers and they may establish any rules they want to enforce, in their private establishments. Hands On Healing has a chosen philosophy of ‘Safety First,’ because they want to keep their clients and staff as safe as is humanly possible.

Now, back to the face mask vs. face shield conundrum. Once again, we are receiving mixed messages from health institutions and professionals. Below are two articles that address the mask vs. shield issue. One thinks shields are best, the other thinks the jury is still out on which is more effective.

Some Prefer Face Shields to Masks. Experts Are Split on Effectiveness

All anyone can do is try to educate themselves and then determine what works best for them.  Hands On Healing has decided that face coverings are required while on the premises, as stated above. The type of face-covering you wear is optional based on your personal preference

As for me, here’s how you will be viewing me while receiving spa services:

During massages, waxing, and other spa services, I will be wearing one of the masks in my collection.

During facials, I will be wearing a mask, PLUS a face shield, due to the close proximity necessary for this service, coupled with the fact that clients cannot wear a mask during a facial procedure.

Call and make an appointment with me, Today! I want to see you and I’m curious to know if you will be wearing a mask or a face shield.

Temperature & Intake Station Procedures

Temperature & Intake Station Procedures

We Have Added a Temperature & Intake Station at the Spa

You may be asking yourself, what the heck is a temperature & intake station?  Well, it’s similar to the check-in desk at a hotel.  Ours happens to be a self-check-in station.  Before you can go to your spa treatment room, you have a few items of business that need to be taken care of, first.

Sanitize your hands, please!

We have provided hand sanitizer for our clients, it’s located on the intake station table right inside the entrance to the spa, you can’t miss it. Please use this, first, before you take your temperature (more on that in a moment) and before filling-out any required paperwork. Our goal is to prevent the spread of germs and this is the first step in keeping everyone safe.

Take Your Temperature

Once you have used the hand sanitizer you will need to take your temperature. We have provided a temperature gun, along with instructions on how to use it. If your temperature exceeds 99 degrees, you will have to re-schedule your appointment and, unfortunately, will not be seen by a therapist on this visit.

We are sorry about the inconvenience this will undoubtedly cause you, but it’s necessary! One of the first symptom indicators for Covid-19 is running a fever. Due to the severity of this virus, we cannot and will not be taking any chances. Anyone with a fever may not receive spa services until such time as their temperature returns to normal.

Tip: We recommend you take your temperature at home, before leaving for the spa. If your temp is higher than 99.0 degrees, you can simply call the spa and cancel your appointment. That way it will save you the time and effort of driving to the spa, only to be turned away because you’re spiking a fever.

Read, Sign and Date the Hands On Healing Release Form

Once you have verified that you are not spiking a fever, your next check-in item is to complete some mandatory paperwork. If this is your first visit to the spa since our re-opening on July 1st, you will need to Read, Sign and Date the Hands On Healing Release Form. You will only be required to complete this form once.  Staff will attach this form to your spa records for safe keeping.

Read, Sign and Date the 3-Question Form

The second form that you must complete, each-and-every time you visit the spa, it our 3-Question Form. Every client must Read, fully Answer 3 Questions about their health and any potential exposure to persons who have tested positive to Covid-19. Once you have answered all 3 questions, you will need to Sign and Date the Form.

The temperature & intake station is likely going to be a permanent fixture at the spa. Suffice it to say that it is part and parcel in the establishment of the spa’s new normal.

Today, every person on planet earth is being required to make adjustments due to Covid-19. We may not like it, (humans tend to resist change) and it may take some time to get used to all the changes, no doubt.  With acceptance and patience, it will be relatively easy to achieve. We happen to believe that the implementation of our Temperature & Intake Station is one of the easiest safety changes to assimilate.

Our Changes to Spa Procedures are Designed to Keep Our Clients and Staff Healthy

Changes to Spa Procedures at Hands On Healing - Stockton, CA

We are Back in Business with New Changes to Spa Procedures

Well, the spa has been open again for a week and we couldn’t be more pleased. It’s been great to see clients again (I missed you!) and to get back into the swing of things.

It’s no surprise that our spa procedures have had to change due to Covid-19. What’s most important for clients of Hands On Healing to understand is this:

The changes we’ve made keep everyone as safe as possible given the current information available about this hideous pandemic and how it spreads.

We fully anticipate that more changes to spa procedures are likely to be implemented as new information is learned and provided by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO).  As new data is released, myself and the staff at Hands On Healing will evaluate how best to implement recommended changes into how things function at the spa.

For now, we know that the following procedures help to mitigate the spread of Covid-19.

• Washing Hands – Often and Thoroughly
• Wearing a Mask or other Face Covering (scarf or shield)
• Practicing Social Distancing by staying 6 ft apart or more whenever possible.

Think of these three processes as one, extremely effective tool that helps prevent the spread of Covid-19 . Each are important, and when used together, they provide the best-known defense of spreading Covid-19.  When in the spa, all three procedures are mandatory.

Over the past week, I (and all the staff at HOH) have been getting used to working with clients wearing masks and fine-tuning how we prepare our treatment rooms using our new sterilization procedures. These new procedures have necessitated having to space-out our scheduling of clients to accommodate cleaning and preparing our treatment rooms for our clients.

The net result of this one change means that we have fewer appointment slots available for bookings. This simply is something that cannot be avoided and it’s something everyone has to become accustom to, as we move forward. We ask that everyone please be patient and understanding. Doing so will make things easier and more pleasant for everyone.

Stay tuned, to stay informed, by returning to my website’s Home Page, to click the links to any new Covid-19 post updates I’ve added to my website. With that in mind, over the next couple of weeks, I will be posting additional information, on my website and to my Facebook page, that will further describe the new policies and changes to spa procedures that are now in effect at the spa.
